From Salt Lake City's east side and Millcreek, mattresses go to the Salt Lake Valley Landfill, which charges $18 for each piece, mattress or box spring. It takes them from residential customers, or from businesses with six pieces or fewer.
From Park City and the rest of Summit County, mattresses go to the Three Mile Canyon Landfill, which accepts them and does not charge them by weight like other loads. Recycle Utah does not take mattresses, box springs or foam pads.
From the Heber Valley and the rest of Wasatch County, mattresses go to the Wasatch County Solid Waste Transfer Station, which takes items that do not fit in household waste containers at $56 per ton, with a $20 minimum for a tarped or strapped load. Since November 1, 2022, the station has told licensed contractors to take their loads elsewhere, so a hauled load may go to Ace Intermountain Recycling in Heber City instead; the fee is billed at cost either way.
