Yes, a few grab bars are a single-visit job when the wall can take studs, blocking or anchors rated for that wall. Tile, fiberglass surrounds and old plaster need the right drill bits and anchors, so mention the wall type when booking.

Where should grab bars go for an older visitor?

Start at the tub or shower entry and beside the toilet. CDC found about two thirds of bathroom injuries happened in the tub or shower, and suggests grab bars both inside and outside the tub or shower.

How high should a grab bar be?

ADA standards place horizontal grab bars 33 to 36 inches above the finished floor, measured to the top, with 1½ inches between bar and wall. Homes do not have to follow ADA, but those numbers are a sound starting point for most adults.
