Handyman Scope in Utah

The short version

Utah Code §58-55-305 lets someone take on repair, remodeling or improvement work without a contractor's license, as long as the whole job — labor, materials and every change order — stays under a dollar cap. Above $3,000 the statute requires a one-time affirmation about liability coverage on file with the state; without it, the cap is $3,000, not the full $7,000 the statute otherwise allows. What never falls under the exemption

Plumbing and electrical work on the system itself, gas appliances and combustion systems, HVAC installation, water-based fire protection and radon mitigation all stay with a licensed contractor at any price — the exemption never covers them, cap or no cap.
