How soon after a snowstorm does a sidewalk need to be cleared?

Often within 24 hours after the snow stops, but the deadline is set by your city ordinance. One common rule also requires a cleared path at least 42 inches wide, or the full width on narrower walks, and bars pushing snow into the street or onto other sidewalks.

Should I shovel during the storm or wait until it stops?
